The Blood Covenant from Adonai

There is a need to realise that God’s laws are unchangeable, one such being, that without the shedding of blood there shall be no remission of sin. This is clearly demonstrated in the Torah, where the Lord instructed Moses (the Prophet of Israel), that the blood of the sacrifice made atonement for the soul. (Leviticus 17:11).

Now the prophet Isaiah informs us that God would raise up His servant who would be led like a lamb to the slaughter (Isaiah 53:7), and wounded for our sins (Isaiah 53:5). In the Brit HaDasha, John the Baptiser upon seeing Yeshua declared, that He was the Lamb of God who would take away the sin of the world. (John 1:29)

This prophetic word of John was fulfilled just some three years later on a tree outside the walls of Jerusalem. As Rabbi Sha’ul of Tarsus stated, that due to this event, those who believe in Yeshua as their Messiah "have redemption through His (Yeshua’s) Blood" and with this the forgiveness of their sins. (Ephesians 1:7)

We see that Yeshua became the fulfilment of the instructions given by God to Moses. For whilst the blood of goats, calves and lambs could at the most make an annual atonement for sin, God sent His own Lamb, Yeshua, who was without sin Himself, thus a perfect sacrifice. As a result of His sacrifice on that tree, His blood poured out now makes an ETERNAL COVENANT. The Blood covenant from the Lord started in the garden of Eden and can be traced throughout the pages of the Tanakh. The Covenant cut with Abraham was one of blood and the Lord God promised the House of Judah and Israel a new Covenant (Jeremiah 31:31). This ‘new covenant’ must be by blood again and Yeshua offers us this ‘new covenant’ which is His blood shed for many. (1 Corinthians 11:25). The writer of the Book of Hebrews see chapter 8 within the New Testament (or Covenant) refers to Jeremiah 31:31 where he says, "And I will remember their sins no more." This implies an eternal covenant for our sins where as under the Abrahamic and Mosaic Covenants our sins had to be actually atoned for. God was doing a new thing, hence the removal of the Temple to facilitate a worldwide redemptive plan.

It is important for us at this point to see that God is an unchanging Holy God and His Word is just as unchanging. So with the Temple no more in existence what as a people are we to do? It is no use us trying to do our best through works of righteous deeds (mitzvot) as these are the precepts (moral instructions) of men not of God (see Isaiah 64:6 to read what God thinks of our righteous acts and deeds). Even repentance (teshuvah) without blood is of no use, we must follow the instruction and pattern set out by the Lord above. His are the rules to make, and not ours to break or alter! Once we are His then we do good works unto Him who saved us. Amen.
