The Ancestral Lineage of the Messiah

Now that we have established the historical background of the Messiah, let us now look at His ancestral lineage so that we can determine for ourselves who He is.

  1. God’s Son, the Messiah or Anointed One is to be the seed of the woman. See Genesis 3:15.
  2. In Genesis 9:26 to 10:2 we read of Noah’s three sons, Ham, Shem and Japheth. Every nation in the world can be traced back to one of these sons. God now eliminates two thirds of the nations of the world when He says His Son will be of the lineage of Shem.
  3. In Genesis 12:1 through the lineage of Shem, God calls a man from Ur of the Chaldeans – Abraham. Every Jew traces their lineage back to Abraham because –
  4. In Genesis 16:11 and 17:19 God narrows it down even further, to 50% through Abraham’s two sons – Isaac and Ishmael. For through the lineage of Isaac His Son would come.
  5. Then Genesis 28:13 and Numbers 24:17, Isaac has two sons – Jacob and Esau. Again God narrows it down another 50%, as through Jacob’s lineage His Son the Messiah would come.
  6. Back to Genesis 49:10, Jacob has 12 sons out of which develops the 12 tribes of Israel. God now omits eleven of the twelve tribes of Israel by saying His Son would be of the Tribe of Judah.
  7. In Isaiah 11:1 we read of a further prophecy, for within the Tribe of Judah, there were many family lines, but we read that The Messiah would be of the family line of Jesse. Not any of the other family lines within Judah.
  8. We read in 1 Chronicles 2:15, 2 Samuel 7:12-17 and Psalm 132:10-11; Jesse has 8 children, but God further eliminates seven eighths of the line of Jesse, by saying His Son, the Anointed One, would be of the House of David for eternity.

Now it is a matter of historical record that Yeshua (Jesus) is of the House of David. This is documented for us in the Gospel of Luke, Chapter 3
Verse 31. It has been accredited to Luke that he is one of the most factual historical writers of all time.

Further to this, Yeshua was born of a virgin, in Bethlehem. The angel Gabriel told Miriam that the Child was the Son of the Most High sent to save His people from their sins, and that he was to be called Yeshua, which means salvation. Jesus was the Jew of Jews, His lineage exactly as described above. His favourite name for himself was the Son of Man, for Isaiah foretold ‘unto us is born a Son.’ Yeshua confirmed when questioned by the High Priest and others that He was the Son of God, the Messiah, and they had Him ‘cut off’ as foretold in Daniel chapter 9 verse 26. It is recorded that the Romans took Him and hung Him on a tree.

Our Saviour and Lord became a curse for us, by cleansing us of our sins through the shedding of His blood. (Without the shedding of blood there is no remission for sins, see Leviticus 17:11).

When we acquaint ourselves with the above facts we have to now either accept or reject that Yeshua (Jesus) is who He claims to be. Acceptance brings eternal life in Him, rejection means eternal separation from your Creator.

Why not let Zechariah 12:10 be personally fulfilled in your life? “…

And they shall look on Me whom they have pierced; and they shall mourn for Him,
as one mourns for an only son,…”

Finally, we would point to the Messiah’s mission as described in Isaiah 11:10. He is to call the Gentile nations (the Goyim) to believe in the God of Israel. To introduce the new covenant of Jeremiah 31:31, to preach the good news of salvation (Isaiah 61:1-3) and to die for man’s sin (Isaiah 53:4-6).

Dear reader, look around at the millions who now believe, Yeshua came at the right time in history, only He has fulfilled this. He can be your Saviour if you will accept, believe in and confess His name.
