Various Kinds of Prayer
Key verse: ‘I exhort therefore, that first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men.’ 1 Timothy 2:1
- Prayers – the general term for all prayer.
- The need for prayer – Luke 18:1. (men ought to pray)
- The time for prayer – Luke 18:1.(always)
- The subjects for prayer – 1 Timothy 2:1. (all men)
- The place for prayer – 1 Timothy 2:8. (everywhere)
- Supplications – an earnest entreaty. Hebrews 5:7.
- Intercessions – to petition the Lord on behalf of others. Romans 8:26. 1 Timothy 4:5.
- Requests – an expression of desire for something. Philippians 4:6.
- Thanksgiving – an expression of gratitude. Ephesians 4:5.
How to Pray
Key verses – We should pray as Elijah did – 1 Kings 18:41-46.
- Intelligently – verse 41. (see Deuteronomy 28:12, 24)
- Believingly – verse 41.
- Humbly – verse 42.
- Earnestly – James 5:17.
- Definitely – James 5:17.
- Persistently– verse 43 and James 5:18.
- Successfully – verses 44-45.
