Accept the Word – Truth believed and acted upon – Rom. 12: 2; 1 Cor. 2: 12-16; James 4: 8

Are Fruitful – Truth planted in the good soil of the new life in Yeshua John 15: 4, 8

3. Overcoming the World

The deceits of the world – flatters our soul that it can satisfy
The desires of the world – the all-pervasive ethos of the world (materialism, humanism, liberality and decadence)
The power of the world – no escape from its pressures expressed, for instance, through:

– The pressure of modern life – to conform
– The pressure attacking family life (e.g. work pressure)
– The pressure in social structure – to blind us to sin (e.g. sexuality)

The intoxication of the world (esp. TV) to dull the senses and thinking
The strength of the world – difficult to go against the flow

The god of this World – 2 Cor. 4: 3-4

Yeshua has Already Overcome the World – John 16: 33

In the World, but Not ‘Of It’ – John 17: 16

Don’t Give Up or Give In – Hebrews 12: 1-2

Don’t be fooled by the World – There is Power in the Blood

We are Justified – Romans 5: 8-9

4. Overcoming the Flesh

The flesh – the fallen, natural, carnal state in which we are born, or our sinful nature
The flesh  seeks to satisfy its own lusts, expressing itself in our thoughts and actions in ways that oppose the spiritual nature and life of God

Recall Yeshua’s promise of help in temptation
Stir up the Spirit of God within you – walk, daily, in the power and life of the Holy Spirit

5. Overcoming the Devil

We are in a battle – the Christian who does not know that has already lost the fight

The god of this world system Rev. 2: 20

– he is our adversary 1 Peter 5: 8
– he is a deceiver Rev. 12: 9

Two Warnings

Recall Yeshua’s battle with Satan in the wilderness – use scripture
Pray always – yourself, with others (battle formation)
