The Prophetic Return of the Jews to the Land of Israel

Introduction:

The Prophets of the Tanach or the Old Testament foretold of the Jews second return as an event very distinct from the Babylonian captivity. The Books of the Prophets quite simply reveal this and so the Holy Scriptures cannot be denied or changed to give another interpretation. The following passages cannot refer to the re-gathering under Ezra and Nehemiah, because the authors clearly state that Israel will be re-gathered “a second time.

Isaiah 11:1-12:6.

Firstly, Isaiah was writing before the first dispersion under Nebuchadnezzar (In the 8th century B.C.). The return from Babylonian and Assyrian exile was the “first re-gathering” (Is. 10:20-27; 44:26-45:8). Moreover, this cannot refer to the re-gathering of the Exodus under Moses, because Isaiah promised a “remnant” will be re-gathered. The Exodus wasn’t a remnant; rather, all of Israel was gathered.

Secondly, this passage states that this will be a global re-gathering (“from the islands of the sea… from the four corners of the earth”) rather than a local re-gathering.

Thirdly, the context explains that this is a global re-gathering at the end of history. In Isaiah 11:1-5, Isaiah speaks of the Branch (the Messiah). In verses 6-9, he speaks of the Messianic Kingdom. In verses 10-16, he speaks of the political or physical re-gathering of Israel. In chapter 12:1-6, he speaks of the spiritual re-gathering in Israel. This occurs during the time of King Messiah (11:10). Isaiah mentions the “Root of Jesse,” which is another term for the Messiah.

Isaiah 11:11-12.

v11 Then it will happen on that day that the Lord will again recover the second time with His hand the remnant of His people, who will remain, from Assyria, Egypt, Pathros, Cush, Elam, Shinar, Hamath and from the islands of the sea. v12 And He will lift up a standard for the nations, and will assemble the banished ones of Israel, and will gather the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.

Jeremiah 31:38-40, 48:40-47

“Behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when the city will be rebuilt for the Lord from the Tower of Hananel to the Corner Gate. v39 The measuring line will go out farther straight ahead to the hill Gareb; then it will turn to Goah. v40 And the whole valley of the dead bodies and of the ashes, and all the fields as far as the brook Kidron, to the corner of the Horse Gate toward the east, shall be holy to the Lord; it will not be plucked up or overthrown anymore forever.”

Ezekiel. 37:11-12, 14, 21-22, 25.

“Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel… v12 I will bring you into the land of Israel… v14 I will put My Spirit within you and you will come to life, and I will place you on your own land. Then you will know that I, the Lord, have spoken and done it,” declares the Lord… v21 “Behold, I will take the sons of Israel from among the nations where they have gone, and I will gather them from every side and bring them into their own land v22 and I will make them one nation in the land … v25 They will live on the land that I gave to Jacob My servant, in which your fathers lived; and they will live on it, they, and their sons and their sons’ sons, forever; and David My servant will be their prince
 forever.”

Hosea. 3:4-5.

For the sons of Israel will remain for many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred pillar and without ephod or household idols. Afterward the sons of Israel will return and seek the Lord their God (then religious restoration) and David their King (the political restoration) and they will come trembling to the Lord and to His goodness in the last days.

Zechariah. 10:8-10.

“I will whistle for them to gather them together, for I have redeemed them; and they will be as numerous as they were before. v9 When I scatter them among the peoples, they will remember Me in far countries, and they with their children will live and come back.
v10 I will bring them back from the land of Egypt and gather them from Assyria; and I will bring them into the land of Gilead and Lebanon until no room can be found for them.”

Conclusion:

The re-gathering of Israel has begun and still goes on including when the Lord returns as He will send out His angels to gather His elect from the four corners of the world.

It is written – Israel is My Elect.

Not all Israel are Israel – Romans 9:6.

The remnant of Israel shall be saved – Zephaniah chapter 2 and 3.

Ezekiel chapter 36 is pivotal in understanding the above as God explains why? It is His plan and for His glory that all may know He is the Lord God Almighty. Amen (so be it).
