Its Necessity and Object – 1 Timothy 5:20.

‘Those who are sinning rebuke in the presence of all, that the rest also may fear.’

Its Internal Form – 2 Thessalonians 3:6-14.

‘withdraw from those whose walk is disorderly and who are busybodies (talebearers/gossips), if anyone does not obey our word in this epistle note that person and do not keep company with them that they may be ashamed.’

Its Extreme Measure – 1 Corinthians 5:11-13.

‘do not keep company with those who are sexually immoral, covetous, idolaters, revilers,
drunkards, or an extortioner. not to even eat with them (break bread). Judge those inside, God judges those outside, so put away from yourselves the evil person.’

Its Aim, Restoration – 2 Corinthians 2:7.

‘forgive the offender who has caused grief (deep sorrow), comfort him/her lest they be swallowed up with too much sorrow. Lest Satan should take advantage of us but we are not ignorant of his devices.’
