VERITAS VINCIT (The Truth Conquers)

(The Truth Conquers)

Key verse: “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

John 8:32.

These are the words of our blessed Lord Jesus and they have a past, present and future meaning.

Contextually, our Messiah was instructing His listeners, the Pharisees and those within the treasury at the Temple of the truth about Himself and His mission. Yeshua then within this one chapter reveals His deitywisdom and authority as the only begotten Son of the Father.

Our Lord uses the I AM (see Exodus 3:14) title of deity 3 times in John 8:24, 28 and 58.

Secondly His wisdom is seen in the handling of the woman brought before Him caught in the very act of adultery.

Thirdly, we see His authority as their Messiah in whom was eternal life. Without faith in Him they were to die in their sins before God – verse 24.

Being the Way, the Truth and the Life our Lord would through being the Truth conquer death, Satan and the sins of mankind through His atoning work. Each of us may know the truth that shall indeed make us free, according to His promise.

Further to this we can see a second application of this verse in standing for the truth once and for all delivered. The doctrines of demons and of men have tried to change or alter the truth to accommodate their erroneous views of God’s unchanging Word.

But it was the reformers who were mostly ex-catholic priests that saw the truth within the Scriptures rightly dividing them and coming out to be separate. They protested against the errors of mother church and began contending earnestly for the faith once and for all delivered. This indeed is the instruction towards us all in the letter of Jude in verse 3. Thus the Protestant movement started and goes on today, for the truth is that all things shall fade except His glorious Word.

These are just a few of the battle cries in Latin that we should use and understand in this age of apostasy and the falling away of biblical standards.

SOLA SCRIPTURA – The Scriptures alone.

PERGATIO SOLA FIDE – Justification by Faith alone.

SOLVATIO SOLA GRATIA – Salvation by God’s grace alone.

At the end of the day it will always be SOLIO DEO GLORIA – God’s glory alone.

Amen.
