Psalm 6

(A CONTRAST TO PSALM 5).

A DARK NIGHT.

Introduction: What a contrast we have here to Psalm 5. What a difference a day can make when we walk and do things in the flesh instead of the spirit.

Proposition: We need to learn from our Lord’s lesson that the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. There are two main points to the ten verses of this Psalm:-

David’s Sad Condition and then his Sudden Confidence.

Body of Teaching:

  1. HIS SAD CONDITION – VERSES 1 TO 7.

Notice how David speaks about his excuse – “I am weak!”
Here is the mental aspect of all….

    1. HIS PLIGHT – verses 1 to 3.
      1. Along Spiritual Lines.
      2. Along Physical Lines.
      3. Along Moral Lines.
    2. HIS PLEA – verses 4 to 5.
      1. Along the Line of Mercy.
      2. Along the Line of Memory.

Next we see how David speaks about his strength – “I am weary!”
Here is the physical aspect of all….

    1. He was worn out – verse 6.
    2. He was waxing old – verse 7.

    2.   HIS SUDDEN CONFIDENCE – VERSES 8 TO 10.

               1. His FEARS are stilled – verses 8 to 9.

               2. His FOES are stopped – verse 10.

Conclusion – The Lord Jesus (L’Adonai Y’shua) is on the Throne – Reigning and Ruling.

He is in the habit of renewing and restoring His redeemed. Israel will one day realise this and rejoice. Amen.
