Introduction: The Psalms show us every facet of our human character, feelings and spirituality.
In them we have a classic understanding of ‘there is nothing new under the sun’ within our thinking towards everyday life under God. For centuries men, women and children have found comfort and guidance by turning to God’s Word and in particular the Pslams.
Proposition: As we enter each new year with many uncertainties, the believer can rest in the knowledge that the Lord is with us until the end of the age. Mankind is now into that time frame where the Lord warned, ‘that men’s hearts would faint with fear at all that is going on around them.’
The only way, truth and life ahead for any of us is to have a very close and personal relationship with the One who loved us and died for us.
As we awake, our day starts with Him, for He knows each of our days ahead and what we shall say and do. (see Psalm 139). Therefore we need to commit the day to Him and ask our Lord for His guidance and wisdom, along with His peace, protection, provision and (spiritual) prosperity.
Let us learn from the pen of David in Psalm 5.
Key verse: “GOOD MORNING MY LORD!” – Verse 3.
A) DAVID ASKS HIS LORD TO LISTEN TO HIM – VERSES 1 TO 7.
Note how David wants to talk about:-
2. THE SINNER –verses 5-6.
1. The sinner has no Footing (v5) nor any Future (v6).
B) DAVID ASKS THE LORD TO LEAD HIM – VERSES 8 TO 9.
Note how he asks for 3 things in verse 8.:-
Note David’s awareness in 3 ways:-
C) DAVID ASKS HIS LORD TO LEGISLATE FOR HIM – VERSES 10 TO 12.
Here is a pattern for us to use in our lives so that we finish the race as David and Paul did.
