Psalm 30

Key phrase: ‘Joy cometh in the morning’ – verse 5

This psalm is a reflection of David’s life as a whole and so reflects ours as well. So much of what is written is a cameo or picture of what takes place in our own lives. There is much for us to learn from the life of David, not only is he a type of our Messiah but of ourselves. What he did, how he felt and how he coped are all in this psalm for us to learn from David’s life.

His Protection – verses 1 to 3

1. In verse 1 we see that in God he had protection from scornful men.
2. In verses 2-3 we can see that he also had protection from serious problems.

His Praise – verses 4 to 5

1. In verse 4 we see David praising God’s character and
2. In verse 5 we see David thanking God for His compassion.

His Past – verses 6 to 7

In these two verses David reflects on his past pride and how he was rebuked.

His Prayer – verses 8 to 10

1. Verse 8 shows David’s personal approach to God – sanctification.
2. Verse 9 shows David’s personal application towards God – submission.
3. Verse 10 shows David’s personal appeal to God – for security and solace.

His Proclamation – verses 11 to 12

In these last two verses we can see how God had changed David’s life inwardly with gladness and outwardly with dancing – verse 11.
The Lord had channelled David’s life just as He does with ours.

He now had an attitude of gratitude and he thanked the Lord for this – verse 12.
In Him we live and move and have our being. Amen.
