Psalm 27

AN EXUBERANT DECLARATION OF FAITH.

Introduction:

This Psalm came about through the evil words of Doeg the Edomite after speaking against David to Saul as recorded in 1 Samuel 22:6-23.
The first verse proclaims David’ complete trust in the Lord for his salvation, spiritually, mentally, physically, socially and morally. We can then note that he was –
Pursued by his enemies – verses 2-3.
Shut out of the Lord’s House – verse 4.
Forsaken by father and mother – verse 10.
Subject to slander – verse 12.

Proposition:

We can divide the 14 verses into three main sections as follows:-
1. David expresses his complete confidence and trust in God – verses 1-6.
2. He then presents his petition to the Lord for deliverance from his enemies – verses 7-12.
3. David then shows us the only attitude and answer is to wait on God – verses 13-14.

Body of Teaching:

David’s Trust.

1 ) Verse 1 shows us his faith and that it was in the present tense.
2 ) Verse 2 shows us that past problems had been dealt with by God as the battle is His.
3 ) Verse 3 shows us that future enemies will be dealt with in the same way.

David’s Desire.
4 ) Verse 4 shows us that David had a very deliberate, daily and a discerning passion in wanting to be in the presence of God and to enquire of Him.
5 ) Verses 5 and 6 show us how David wanted the Lord to hide him and to help him.

God’s Grace.

6 ) Verses 7 and 8 show us David’s cry for mercy according to God’s covenant promises
even though we can like David feel rejected by God and family – verses 9 and 10.

God’s Guidance.
7 ) Verse 11 shows us David needed God’s direction and then His deliverance in verse 12.

God’s Goodness.
8 ) Verse 13 shows us the faith and trust David had in the Lord and we must have the same.
9 ) Verse 14 shows us that we must wait on the Lord as He will strengthen us in our walk.
In conclusion Psalm 27 has many spiritual life application principles for us to learn from.
